Save Oreo

‼️$320 for Oreo or death‼️

'You mutt! You bloody bastard! Dance for me here, otherwise you'll be shot in the head, you stupid hack!” shouts the horse trader, a fine young man. I'm surprised THIS is his occupation.

He barely have the power to hold such an enraged, terrified horse, which is one of the largest horses I have ever seen... No matter how big he is though, he doesn't stand a chance against a young man in patent leather shoes who hits him with a whip, blow after blow.

‼️$320 for Oreo or death‼️

'You mutt! You bloody bastard! Dance for me here, otherwise you'll be shot in the head, you stupid hack!” shouts the horse trader, a fine young man. I'm surprised THIS is his occupation.

He barely have a power to hold such an enraged, terrified horse, which is one of the largest horses I have ever seen... No matter how big he is though, he doesn't stand a chance against a young man in patent leather shoes who hits him with a whip, blow after blow.

'I sold the bastard and he gave the customer such a hard time that he was turned in to me just after one day. I'll teach him a lesson! This prick only brought me shame!' and as these words fall, the whistle of the whip cuts the air again, and the terrified Oreo's eyes get bigger and bigger.

Another employee approaches us. He takes over the horse. The fancy man is dusting off his hands - now I see how elegantly he is dressed. 'He made me dirty, motherfuc***! Do you see that? Well, I don't know why you need such a scum, but it's none of my business', he waves his hand and leaves sideways, not to get his shoes dirty.

I stand there a little stunned.
Most of horse traders don't look like that.
This one beats hundreds of horses a week.
He's the a true Croesus of traders.
We're dealing with a real business here.
The guy trades in horses for sport and for breeding - and whomever is suitable neither here nor there - he sends to slaughter.

Oreo was supposed to go to the buckboard, but apparently he broke the shafts and then the buckboard itself.
'They even tied his legs with ropes, ma'am! What a scene that was! The horse was kicking, pulling, throwing himself in all directions and finally fell over together with the carriage! Man, I regret not having seen this!” employee of a young, elegant man laughs. Equally young, but without patent shoes on.

Sasha is standing at the entrance, clenching his fists as he listens.
I know that in such situations he regrets he learned Polish so well.

I nod for him to stay where he is, because if we start a row now, they will throw us out.

'The boss said you give $320 today and the rest later. So, you got this cash? Because I have to shut the bastard in and go to the cows.' says the young man and puts out his hand for money.

'We'll have it by the evening, we'll bring it. Could you please stop pulling and beating him? He's standing still and you keep on hitting him.' I finally can't stand it when I see Oreo being constantly kicked in the stomach and pulled by his head. For no reason, because this horse stands like an angel. Although he could destroy this barn if he wanted to.

I take some photos of the horse.
I hear the barn doors opening again. I know the owner is back.
'Are you still here? Are you journalists or something? Leave immediately and don't come back without money!' he tugs my hoodie and directs me to the exit.
Sasha can't stand it, 'I'm calling the police, smartass!' and when I hear it, I can feel tears coming to my eyes. I know we may not be able to come back here again.

'You're lucky I'm in a good mood today! I can afford such struggles. You know what? I'm so wealthy, I beat so many horses that I could give this horse to you for free and I wouldn't even notice... I spend more at the bakery than you're gonna pay me. But if you're rude, I'll double the price. Because I can. I don't care about selling it to you. It's up to you. And before you open your Ukrainian chops to scare me again, you better think twice. Goodbye for now. Today I see a deposit of $320, by this evening' with an ironic smile the man opens the gate for us.

'Ewa, I'm sorry, I couldn't stand it anymore when he was beating that horse... When he tried to throw us out I just lost my nerve' Sasha leans against the car with tears in his eyes.

I feel sorry for Sasha.
I feel sorry for Oreo, that mighty horse who was left there in the barn, his huge terrified eyes and his heart pounding with fear.

I sit on the curb.
I am finishing this message to you and I click: send.

Will you come with us to this barn again this evening?
We'll be much more comfortable in a group...
