Pako

At first, you see the wound.

It is large and open, just below his eye, stretching down his cheek. Then you notice the others-on his shoulder, his side, his back. In some places, they look like severe burns. In others, the skin and tissue are deeply damaged.

Then you see Pako himself.

A shaggy black dog with big ears. Gentle. Quiet. Still looking towards the person beside him.

That is where we want his story to begin.

With Pako. A dog in Ukraine who needs help to heal, and whose life is much more than the injuries in these photographs.

Pako was removed from someone’s care during a police intervention. He is out of that situation now. But his rescue is only at the first step.

We do not have a full account of what happened to him. His injuries show how urgently he needs care. Right now, our focus is on what we can do for him next.

His wounds need cleaning and protecting. His pain needs relief. The veterinary team must monitor the damaged tissue, watch for infection, change his dressings, and give him the medication he needs.

One appointment and a bandage will not be enough.

There will be more visits. More check-ups. Days and weeks of careful treatment. And bills that arrive much faster than new skin can grow.

This is where your help can make a difference.

Look at Pako again, and try to imagine what we hope will come next.

The same face, with the wound beneath his eye finally closed. New skin covering the raw areas on his side. Fur slowly growing back across his body.

A day when he can go out for a walk and enjoy the smells along the path. When his wounds no longer need constant attention. When he can lie down and rest comfortably.

We cannot promise how quickly he will heal. But we can work towards that future, one day of care at a time.

Despite everything, Pako remains gentle. He allows people to guide him and stay close.

That trust deserves a careful response.

A hand that gives him medicine.Offers a gentle stroke where it does not hurt. Someone who notices when he is uncomfortable and helps him feel better.

Again and again, through the small, patient acts that his recovery depends on.

He will still need help when these photographs are no longer new. When a dressing needs changing again. When another prescription must be paid for. When healing is slow, and he needs more time.

We want to stay beside him through all of it.

Today, you see open wounds.

In time, we hope to show you healed skin. Scars where those wounds used to be. Fur beginning to grow back.

And then simply Pako-comfortable, cared for, and able to enjoy his days.
