Sebastian needs help!

We have already saved 4 horses. Julius, two girls and Noe. They are with Jose, who is doing his best to make them feel better, both mentally and physically. In about 4 weeks they will move to us, to Poland so we hope that their condition will improve soon.

Today, meanwhile, Jose sent us photos of Sebastian. We were just sitting in the midst of the Polish May rains when a message notification pop up on the phone and we saw him - big, or rather tall and skinny - Sebastian. Most likely also sick, because he is losing weight and no one knows what's wrong with him. Or maybe no one has even examined him? Jose says hay and oat prices are skyrocketing in Portugal as a result of the massive drought. Plenty of horses will lose their lives as a result of farm bankruptcies. Sebastian's owner simply has nothing to feed his horse.

This is not the kind of Portugal I've read about.

We have only a few days. Until May 16. Then Sebastian will go to slaughter.

I promised that we would try to raise 2500 euros so that Sebastian would join the horses going to Poland, to our sanctuary. Because that's what it takes to pay him off. We tried to negotiate, but the owner is not an animal lover. He stated that he would rather get a few euros less and slaughter the horse than sell them to us cheaper and let them live.

Lack of logic?

You see, the owner probably judges the world with his categories. He probably believes that if he sells us the horse a few euros cheaper, it will be fair to his business, or that we will sell it somewhere. There, in Portugal, there are no organizations that work as we here in Poland. No one understands why we would, with a lot of help from you - donors, buy a horse just to let him live.

Besides, even in our village, no one understands this. Szczedrzykowice, where our animal centre is located, people perceive us as crazy at best. And even though we've been here for more than 10 years - the question is still being asked why we buy horses and never sell them and don't do anything with them.

There is a similar level of understanding in Portugal, but it applies to a rather larger part of the population. Therefore, Sebastian will not find a rescue there. In a situation like his - there are plenty of horses today. Of course, we can't drive them all to Poland. We wouldn't even be able to provide them with shelter. Also, we don't have the funds to buy them out. Because although Portugal is essentially poor, there is no shortage of horses there. And many of them will lose their lives in the coming months as a result of this drought.

May dying not hurt, may the wind blow away the clouds, and may the Portuguese sun warm their necks as they crowd at the gangway, before loading. Why exactly Sebastian? No reason. He is the first one Jose suggested. The transport will be in 4 weeks, it can take up to 18 horses which we can get out of this hell.

Today we are fighting for Sebastian.

Because although he stands today staring at the wall thousands of miles away from us, from you.... after all, it doesn’t change much. He wants to live the same way, and his heart beats the same way it would beat in any latitude.

Therefore, if you can, support him today. Because he has only us. All these horses have only us. No one else reaches out there. No one is interested.

Every dollar, every 1 euro - multiplied by the number of people who believe in the cause - is a chance that Sebastian in early June will get on that transport of "survivors" and travel many miles to live many more years among others who were lucky. In memory of those who were less fortunate...
